Kitty Kentuck

The third in our Spirits Alive barrel-aged series, this limited-release coffee was aged in rum barrels from Portland, Maine's distillery Three of Strong Spirits for over 60 days. To infuse the beans with flavors from the barrel, the barrels are rotated daily. Once roasted, the infused beans have no alcohol in them but have delicious notes of vanilla extract, charred oak and muscat grape.

The Spirits Alive Series celebrates Portland's rich history and the Spirits Alive non-profit which maintains the Eastern Cemetery. This is where Kitty Kentuck, and the other subterranean celebrities in our Spirits Alive Series, rest.

Kitty was a tavern owner and rum seller, known to sailors far and wide. She lost her house in the fire of 1866, and was found murdered later that year. Although her story came to a sad end, she was called “a poor, but generous, kind-hearted Irish woman."
