Voices By Design
We recently launched a new series at Coffee By Design called Voices By Design. The Series will feature readings and conversation at our roastery and coffeehouse at 1 Diamond Street, Portland, and is free and open to all. Our goal is to invite people through written word, dance and music to give voice and engage in community conversation. Our first event featured poets Vincent Katz and Claire Millikin; we heard readings from each and had an opportunity to talk with them about their works. Our next Voices By Design event is scheduled for Thursday, August 24 and welcomes author and performer Cid Bullens, who will read from his memoir “Trans Electric: My Life As A Cosmic Rock Star.” The doors will open at 5:30 pm and the reading will begin at 6 pm, followed by a book signing and more conversation. This promises to be a very special event! Cidny Bullens, formerly known as Cindy Bullens, is an American singer-songwriter who is best known for serving as backup vocalist on tours and albums with Elton John and Rod Stewart, as well as providing vocals on the soundtrack of the 1978 feature film Grease, as well as releasing nine critically acclaimed solo albums. In 2012, Bullens publicly came out as a transgender man. We hope to see you on August 24.
